Why Leaders Should Embrace Tattooed Professionals

Why Leaders Should Embrace Tattooed Professionals - If you want to increase your productivity that is!

A store manager from 10 years ago sent me a heartfelt message yesterday. As a vice president with full sleeve tattoos, my visit to his store had a profound impact. He thanked me because seeing a leader with visible ink helped him stop worrying about his own tattoos and start focusing on his skills and leadership.

Here’s the thing: people with visible tattoos want to be seen as human beings. The more prominent the tattoos, the more they crave acknowledgment. As leaders, it's our job to relate to or encourage those who wish to be seen. When you embrace this, you’ll see your team's productivity skyrocket.

Recognize that tattoos are a form of self-expression and individuality. When leaders show acceptance of tattoos, it encourages employees to focus on growth rather than hiding who they are. Companies that foster an inclusive environment tend to outperform those that do not. Embracing tattooed professionals can be a competitive advantage.

Encourage a culture where employees feel seen and valued, regardless of their appearance. Support your team's individuality to enhance their performance and dedication. Show your team that true leadership is about inclusivity and authenticity.

Still focusing on trimming the P&L instead of nurturing your team? Be prepared to watch your business get passed by in the coming years. Embrace the diversity, acknowledge the ink, and lead with authenticity.
